Escola Formare Project
IP professionals are volunteer educators in the Project, contributing to the vocational training course for youngsters from low-income families.

One of the main relationship channels between International Paper and its surrounding communities is the International Paper Institute (IIP), founded in 2007 to coordinate the Company's social and environmental responsibility initiatives. The IIP's mission is to be recognized by its stakeholders as a benchmark in this area and for its initiatives to further sustainable competitiveness.

Classified as a Civil Organization of Public Interest ("OSCIP") since November 2009, the Institute has been promoting educational and environmental projects for children and teenagers. This focus was established by management and the employees themselves, who helped define these initiatives through a series of workshops. All the projects are subject to certain criteria (such as scope and replicatory effects), metrics and indicators, which permit the constant monitoring of results and form the basis for forging partnerships and raising funds.

In 2013, the Institute’s investments increased by 13% over the previous year, permitting the creation of a volunteer project for the São Paulo office (Guardians in Action), the launch of the final episode of Biosphere Guardians (Amazon biome) and the holding of another edition of the Itinerant Book City project.

Prior to implementation, the Institute’s projects are subjected to a strategic evaluation by the Advisory Board, comprising in-house and independent members.

Investments:

The Board of International Paper Institute is responsible for analyzing the existing projects and viability of other projects in the future. The current projects are analyzed in accordance with four pillars (Innovation, Extension, Franchise and Discontinuity) and the objectives, actions, indicators and partnerships are periodically analyzed.

In 2013, the Institute’s projects involved 496 volunteers and had a direct impact on more than 28,000 people.
