G4-EN12 In 2014, forest fires occurred in approximately 518.51 hectares of natural areas, mainly due to the prolonged drought last year. Such natural incidents impacted species in the early to medium stages of ecological succession of the Cerrado and Atlantic forest biomes, affecting the biodiversity of these areas for a period of ten years or more.

G4-EN14 Currently, the company’s natural areas are home to 17 species included in the IUCN Red List, of which 11 are classified as vulnerable (VU), 4 are classified as Endangered (EN) and 2 as Critically Endangered (CR). In the state of São Paulo, there are 87 endangered species, of which 31 (VU), 12 (EN), 10 (CR) and 34 Near Threatened (NT). At national level, there are 27 endangered species, of which 21 (VU), 4 (EN), 1 (CR) and 2 (NT). These species belong to the Atlantic forest and Cerrado biomes and transition areas between them.

G4-LA5 The main formal committee which covers all employees is CIPA (Internal Committee for Accident Prevention). In addition to this committee, there are various leadership committees where "safety” is debated, with the most important one being the EHS&S Committee, mentioned earlier.

G4-LA8 Concerning collective agreements, the agreement applicable to all units covers issues related to health and safety, including: sick pay addition, personal protective equipment (PPE), protective measures, first aid and medical clinic, drinking water and meals, healthcare, and health and safety committee.

G4-LA11 In 2014, International Paper’s entire leadership was classified as having regular performance, for the paper and packaging units. All other employees who work in the printing and writing paper business were evaluated. However, as the packaging units’ systems are still under integration phase, only a few employees were evaluated. For the coming years, all these employees will have the performance evaluation implemented.
