04DIVERSIFICATION WITH SUSTAINABILITY
PRINCIPAL IMPACTS OF THE ORGANISATION
Eternit's production activities generate impacts on its surroundings, in society and environment. To classify these impacts, the concept of “externality” has been created, which covers the positive or negative affects originated by an economic agent, in this case Eternit. According to this concept, the agent alters others without these others having control of the impacts, seeing that they have not participated in the initiative.
As the principal activities of the Company can be basically divided into two areas - mining and finished products, being fibre cement and concrete tiles. These generate different impacts, and to gain a better understanding of both, the table had been drawn up with the main changes that occur in the economic, environmental and social environments. As part of its management directives, Eternit makes great efforts to reduce any negative impacts, while attempting to maximise those that are positive.
