Digital NET Launch
 |
Digital NET is a new pay-TV service. This service,
as the name itself suggests, is digital-technology based, and features
extra functions in relation to analogical services, even when viewed on
analogical television sets. Highlights include superior quality sound
and image and extra channels. The product also offers certain new resources,
such as the Electronic Programming Guide so that users can surf the mosaic
of channels on the screen and identify any program they are watching through
single command on the remote control.
Digital NET also provides Pay-Per-View choices, so subscribers can directly
select films and events using the remote control, and watch them in certain
predetermined schedules shown in the programming grid.
The product was launched in November 2004 in São Paulo and Rio
de Janeiro, and its strategic aim is to renew the NET brand image with
the target public, as well as boost subscriber satisfaction and loyalty
and so raise average revenue per subscriber (ARPU) by introducing premium
service.
HBO Contract
In March 2005, NET signed a new contract for programming content with
the HBO channels and so became the first pay-TV company to combine the
GloboSat and HBO channels in its programming grid.
There are 10 options between the channels - HBO, HBO Plus, HBO Family,
Cinemax and Max Prime – and their versions in alternative time slots.
With innovative content and a fine choice of programs 24 hours a day,
the package also features Dolby Surround 5.1 digital technology with a
clearer image and high audio quality, giving subscribers the sensation
of being inside a movie theater. The new HBO channels were included in
NET programming as of March.
